We are all afraid and is not always bad to have it because there is a healthy fear, which it is what protects us and allows us to be prudent and put his head when making decisions. However, there is also an unhealthy fear, toxic, which it is what paralyzes us, not allowing us to move or take on new challenges for fear of being wrong or we reject, leaving no shine. This is the fear we have to recognize and fight to avoid stopping point, to prevent us from risk, take certain decisions or transit paths trodden by others not before.
Fear is one of the emotions that most human behavior condition, so in the workplace it has been used on many occasions, as a, misnamed, motivational method. Initially Company, when what was needed were people who did not think they were just in front of the assembly, fear worked; however now at this time, with new business models, market and business, what we need is talent, creativity and enthusiasm; what we need are people who feel like they come to work and give the best of themselves. And this philosophy, fear as a form of motivation, has no place; although surprisingly still I continue to find with employers and even workers who continue to defend as valid and effective this form of lead.
The aim of the employer is clear, earn money for your business can grow, but the key is to know what is the best way to make this happen. From my point of view, the only sustainable way to do this is to create spaces where workers feel supported and can give the best of themselves. And for this, entrepreneurs and team leaders have to allow their employees to risk, experiment and make mistakes. If the error is penalized, there can be no innovation, and creativity, or talent. Therefore, if we want to be a good businessman and a good leader we must accept the error of our employees and support.
When I accompany senior managers in coaching processes, observe how many of them also fear is very present, on these occasions, in form of power loss. Many entrepreneurs and Insecure leaders are intimidated by collaborators talented and this prevents them from giving the necessary space to develop it.
The company that has understood the new form of leadership chooses the leaders who really are examples and do not care about power, to be well up, but to achieve the best results looking down, towards their partners. These companies are the ones that are having the best results and are the new benchmarks.
The businessman and intelligent leader is one who knows to surround himself with people much smarter than he. For me that is the key to effective leadership, surround himself with brilliant people and let shine, because we can not afford to lose one iota of talent by our fear. Why employers and HR departments. must be able to identify and select those leaders who can promote a safety working environment where their people are allowed to bring out their full potential and talent.
