Often my coaching clients identified as one of its main objectives the need to change some aspect of their lives. However, also express frustration at having attended many courses that have received extensive training without obtaining any results after. Perhaps the earliest days —I say— do something different; but quickly go back to the old routine and I find the same feeling of not being able to cope with the changes.
The main sticking point with which we found when changing any aspect of our life is ourselves. It's useless to know theoretically how to do it if we fail the will to carry it out. From my point of view, Current society has evolved in many ways from that of our parents or grandparents; however, many other, especially in regard to the strength of will, has receded. Many times we feel that we have lost the strength that they had to fight, to always finish what they began to not be capricious or. In some cases we have become very permissive society, no positive references. And this makes us vulnerable people, to the difficulties, are not able to use the will to overcome.
People who achieve success in life (Success understood, achieve what is proposed and that depends on them) son those who have an iron will, a will that allows them to break the inertia of their habits and get going with perseverance to achieve your goals.
Strengthen the will involves educating to do what, ultimately, will be better for us: in terms of coaching, carry out that which leads us to the goals we have set, instead of what we want momentarily. So we become truly free people, because we move without being coerced by external stimuli or internal dependencies that distract us from the path we have chosen to follow.
But strengthening the will is not easy task and is a challenge to overcome every day. No doubt to get necessary, at least, rely on these four legs that hold the solid table will call.
1. Having clear objectives: specifically, realistic and with a date to achieve. This will help to motivate and maintain authority over ourselves to not abandon the path set. The more we delude our goal the stronger our desire to achieve.
2. Establish habits. The will need a gradual learning, which is achieved by the repetition of acts where one fights, falls and starts. By repeating the same behavior over and over again get into a positive habit. At first it may cost us a lot of work to overcome the inertia; but, ultimately, when we get it, we will come.
3. Marked small steps to walk the walk. The important thing is to take small steps as we walk forward: walk slowly and strode. At first it will be more expensive; but as we move forward will become more easy.
4. Do not compare yourself with others. Set ourselves too much about what others are doing and want what others have can separate us from our path, make us feel dissatisfied and getting us to achieve our goal desmotivemos.
As the will is strengthened further develops our internal authority. In this way we will not carry nor the immediate stimulus or by the opinions of others. Personal mastery is one of the most extraordinary challenges we rise above the circumstances. You do not do what he wants, or choose the easiest and painless, but that goes to the best and the best for you.
In the words of Enrique Rojas in his splendid book "The Conquest of the will", an indicator of the maturity of the personality of an individual is the degree of strength of his will.
